I'm definately not taking the model. I can't fit it anywhere in and around the house unless i plan to ship it back to Malaysia. hahaha.. So I'm out. Jason you can have it unless someone else proposes something which we can make back the money we invested in this model.

Next Meeting Mon 15th Sept
Great work today!
Our next meeting will be Monday 15th Sept at 9am can everyone try and be there then as we will only have 4 day from then to get it finished................which means we will have to be there every day of this next week.
So this weekend the steel shoe and plate is getting cut...awesome. So all we should have to do is painting and getting it all together, POSTER Noelle please talk to Rose if you havent already she has info on what else has to go on it etc. PLEASE for those who have photos can you put them on the blog so everyone can see them.
What are your thoughts on the fabric for the roof? Do we go with the mesh? If so we need to get it cheap or free...cause it seriously can cost $40-$60 per meter or more.....no joke. So we need to have this finalised by Monday otherwise it will be too late. So if you have any ideas or know of any places that might be good check them out and get back to the group Monday and we will discuss it.
Great...thats it!!
Have a good weekend!!!

We are going to be again working on the project tomorrow 11th Sept.
If you can be there that would be great.
Let me know if you are unable to be there I understand it is hard to keep up with everything when this takes so much out of our time. BUT there is only 8 day to go on it and still ALOT to get through.
Sounds like people will be coming around 11am or midday.
Hope to see you all there

Tomorrow 10th September
Work is going really well on the project. Got a heap done today. So well done.
We will start work on it again tomorrow at 11am after the History Lecture. Lets try and hit it hard again tomorrow so we can at least get the main structure almost finished.
RAFIA, JASON,NOELLE concentrate on getting the seat on its way.
EVERYONE ELSE will work on the main structure and the roof.
Please can those that haven't payed their total money get it to me ASAP as we need it for more materials.
Also how would you all like to have our project displayed just out side the library entrance? This its one of the free spaces and would be a good spot as it is high and can be viewed from above aswell. Let me know what you think and I can book it.
Thanks guys. See you all tomorrow.

For this week
Following the discussion we had with Anthony Worm on Friday:
- Friday at the end of the day a few of us went and bought new bolts for the main structure, they are male and female bolts so they will be identical on either side of the structure to achieve good aesthetics.
It sounds like they will be judging us on our craftsmanship and how aesthetically pleasing it will be at the end. So lets try and get 'all' the finishing touches to the highest standard we can.
- Jason M. will be replacing the spray paint with the new colour we have chosen which is the light/charcoal colour. Jason are you able to have this done by Tuesday?
- It looks like we will shape the main column as Jason G suggested to keep it aesthetically accurate. When you think about it it will be best. Good idea Jason!
So this week we need to attempt to have done/finished:
- The design for the seat.
- Shaping of the colum.
- Cut, glue and 'make good' of the main roof beam.
- Poster (at least started)
- Painting of the roof members
- Steel shoe started.
- Get more (or different) Brackets for roof members.
- Figure out how we will stretch canvas over roof.
So as suggested by Anthony Worm I have allocated people to the jobs that need to be completed by this week. He advised us that instead of all 10 of us working on the same thing at once we need to have people working on 'all' of the jobs at once. Saves time & no dodgy quick jobs at the end.
I have allocated you each to an area (no bias involved, i just thought you are suited for them).
- JUREEN, ROSE & JASON G. can you please focus of getting the Seat design finished this week. Stretch your imagination on this one Anthony DOES NOT want to see a flat 'stuck on' seat he suggested having a look at the work of furniture designers etc to create something really different and ergonomic, make it an event for some one to sit on it. You have freedom to do anything. Get the design finished come back to the group and finalise it and then get the materials materials and start constructing it as soon as possible. Try and arrange times when you can all work on it as a group.
- NOELLE, JOEL, STUART can you please focus on getting the final painting of the roof members finished (they may need a few coats). ADRIAN can you please supervise this.
- ADRAIN, RAFFIA, JASON M. and MYSELF will work on cutting, cleaning and finishing the main column and the roof beam.
- ADRIAN can you follow up the steel and welding for the 'steel shoe'
If anyone runs out of things to do I will allocate you to the other areas that need more help.
If any one has any issues let me know. These are all active roles so no one is going to be left out or not doing anything.
Thanks for those who have given me your availability times. If the rest of you can get that to me soon that would be gr8. I will then be able to see who we have for each day and work the 'schedule of works' clearly.
I suggest we have Monday off this week lets use it as a time to catch up on other units...Hey? So we will be next meeting up on Tuesday 9th September get there when you can, I will be there around 10am, everyone else come when you can.
Alright guys see you Tuesday.
Have a good rest of the weekend!!!

Tomorrow 5th September
Tomorrow we will be again working as much as possible on the project.
I spoke with Des Walters this afternoon about the use of the router it looks like it will be free but we need the drawings in CAD for this up to scratch by tomorrow morning. Is this OK Jureen? Is it possible for you to be there with the drawings when Nolee and I are in?
Des also said there will be two options for the cutting of the timber: one is the router unfortunately the drill bit is only 42 mm and our timber is 45 mm deep and he is unsure wether it will work but he is willing to give it a go.
The other option is a jigsaw but he knows we want a near perfect cut and the jigsaw wont give us this and if this is the way we go we have to print out full scale drawings and use them as a template for the cut.
Eitherway we will need the CAD drawings and each has its own problems.
Noelle and I will be in around 9:30am tomorrow @ workshop to go and change the paint get some more primer, change the bolts and get the roof fabric (unless anyone else wants to do it??). It would be good if someone could tell me ASAP what size bolts we need. '
Also tomorrow if everyone can bring in reciepts PLEASE and each $50 as we need to pay for the router and extra materials bought.
Any questions just give me a call.
Thanks guys

I'm going to bring as many tools as I can
Hi guys
Friday, August 29, 2008
Router cut everything successfully yesterday. Total cost for cutting was $60 it was $1.80 per lineal meter. This was not the l/m size of the timber but the total l/m's it took to cut each roof member. So it adds up to $6 each.
This Tuesday from 10am those who are able make it we will be working down in the 24hr space getting the timber finished.
Monday & Tuesday this week the workshop will be closed we wont be able to use any of the equipment (so everything needed on that day will have to be brought by group members) we will be able to get all our timber out of the workshop as there will be someone there all the time.
Also for those that were not there. Our allocated time for our 'complete workshop access' is Thursdays at 4pm-6pm. I know it does not suit everyone but this was the best time out of all the choices.
I am also keeping a record of payments from each person that has given money for the kitty. We are aiming to get from everyone by this Tuesday $50 to start with. So far Raffia, Joel, Jureen, Rose & myself have paid $50. Jason G. $151.20 (of materials) and Noelle $25. Can everyone who hasn't paid the total $50 or yet to pay any please get it to me this Tuesday. I am keeping a record of all expences and payments so we know how much is going out and what we have in the kitty.
Thanks
Perri
Jason as applies to everyone in the group, if you buy something for the project ensure you bring the receipt to class as we agreed on and we can divide up the funds up between the 11 of us, otherwise im sure not everyone is just going to bring money without seeing it, as happens in real life:
no receipt, no proof of purchase.

Hey Guys!
Before any construction is done, we need the money so we can pay for it, i dont have enough money nor adriano to just go out and pay for all of it ourselves as too expensive. So make sure u bring the money adriano has sent to all of us which will cover for whats needed so far. I suggest we all bring in 100 bucks and put it somewhere and have someone take care of it, and receipts kept for the end when it will be divided up and shared out evenly, however no receipt for something bought, it comes outta your pocket for not keeping it. My suggestion.
I wont be there for the studio as have an interview for the IBL program tomorrow afternoon so if the trailer is still needed please contact me and i will organise it for pick up, just ensure it is returned after being used.
Thanks

- Around 9am Adriano and Jason M will be picking up plywood for roof and discussing with Des Walters wether the router will be able to cut the roof structure.
- 1:45 pm (after lecture) we will need to meet up in Studio as a group to discuss together the bolts (bought for the main structure) and the options for roof brackets.
- 2pm Adriano and a few others will head down to workshop and get roof structure cut. (We have booked the router for this exact time & will probibly have it only for an hour or so).

Word of Encouragement
Just want to Encourage all of you and say you are all doing an amazing job on this project. Although you may not feel like you are doing much, every little bit counts to the final product.
So dont be discouraged if you feel like you aren't doing much, because you are!
Its is a credit to all of you that we are up to the stage we are at, although it may not seem like we are organised we actually are and we are way ahead of where other groups are at.
This is also shown in how well we work as a group we all get along and get things done which is amazing for such a large group.
So well done and keep up the good work!!!
We are going to need all hands on when it comes to construction which means each one of you will have a role. And we are going to get an awesome outcome of all this. Best urban Shelter EVER!!!
See you all soon

Material Findings/Prices
Thanks guys

Scheduled Friday Router booking IMPORTANT!!!
Just so you all know we spoke with Des Walters about begining cutting the roof structure this Friday.
We MUST have each of the roof members drawn ACCURATELY by this Thursday on AUTOCAD on the Plywood size we have choosen so everything can run smoothly when it comes to cutting the pieces.
The router ONLY opperates from AUTOCAD so the drawings will have to be done in AUTOCAD.
Adriano are you doing these drawings? Do you have AUTOCAD?If not can you possibly do the drawings at uni? (Or provide me or someone else with the exact dimensions for each piece, so we can get them done) If so you will need to get them done by this Thursday. Des Walters must see the drawings in electronic fromat by 9am Friday to make sure they are OK. as we have booked the router for 2pm.
Also please note my mobile number is incorrect on the information sent out earlier it is infact 0400079521.
Thank Perri :-)
We have been talking about shelter, and having enough for the people when standing and sitting, with it being so high at the back it wouldnt provide much if any
Just my opinion....
About the Model
Will let you guys in on it stuff tomorrow in detail:)So the entire group can decide. Cheers!xoxo:)

The Seat
Because the seat is 600 x 1200 we will get three goes at getting it right from the one sheet or we can do double thickness.
I think I'm going to just go and pick it up today.
I'll then attempt to draw up some kind of seat over the weekend once I have that drawing we did of it or I might just guess for now.
Anyway, progress is good. See you all soon!

Research

This is a bus shelter from the Netherlands. I've put this in due to its smooth characteristics, and also that despite the fact that we need it to be structurally possible, we also need to consider its design aesthetics, as discussed on Friday. I hope that we can come to some sort of concreted resolution as to how we are to maintain a smooth design and prevent it from looking too engineered.

I've included this because to me this is how i am perceiving the design of the verandah. It is about the closest image I can find that resembles our intentions.
This small sketch is from a website and is a sketch of a proposed Yarra Trams bus shelter. Very different in design and materials, however maybe we can further our research of the design of the roof and apply it to our design?

Next Meeting and stuff
Just a reminder our next meeting for this project is Wednesday 27th @ 2:30pm up in Studio. Hope this all works for everyone. Let me know if you cant come and we will keep you updated on everything that happens.
Also can someone Ju Reen? Post the construction dets. as they are so all group members can look over them and know where we are up to. We will need then to send sketches off to companies for pricing if we want to go with an engineered timber beam/column.
It might also be a good dea if each group member can post regular updates on where they are indvidually up to with the project during the week just to keep everyone in the loop with was is happening and it will give us all an idea what areas are progressing and what needs to be pushed on more.
Alright thanks guys
Hope you all have a great weekend
Perri
